In the journey of recovery, community support and shared experiences can be powerful motivators. EVALCORP is proud to support the Rebellion Dogs, a recovery-focused softball team in Irvine, CA, that offers an inclusive space for individuals on the path to sobriety. Recently, we had the opportunity to interview Breezy Nowlan, a dedicated team member, to learn more about the team’s impact and how it has created a powerful community for people in recovery.
How Rebellion Dogs Started: A Community of Support
Three years ago, Breezy joined the Rebellion Dogs and immediately experienced the transformative power of teamwork. “I didn’t know anyone else on the team when I joined besides one girl,” she recalls. “And now, I see my teammates more than my own family. They have become my family.” For Breezy and many others, the team is more than just weekly softball—it’s a vital support system where everyone shares similar challenges and triumphs on their journey to sobriety.
Transformative Impact of Rebellion Dogs
The Rebellion Dogs’ impact extends far beyond the softball field. The team welcomes individuals at all stages of recovery, from those newly sober to veterans with over a decade of sobriety. Many members joined seeking a fresh start or a sense of belonging. “Watching people realize they can still have fun and be part of a team while sober is so powerful,” says Breezy. “Like sobriety, you can’t win a softball game by yourself.”
EVALCORP’s Commitment to Reducing Barriers to Recovery
Since 2022, EVALCORP has been proud to sponsor the Rebellion Dogs, covering the costs of team expenses, including jerseys and season fees. This support has removed financial barriers that might otherwise prevent some individuals from joining. EVALCORP’s commitment helps more people experience the team’s benefits and receive the support they need to stay focused on their recovery journey.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Rebellion Dogs
The Rebellion Dogs plan to continue expanding their team and fostering a close-knit, encouraging environment. New members are welcomed when spots become available, and the team looks forward to continuing to practice, grow, and compete together. Off the field, the team will keep strengthening its bonds through activities and gatherings, helping each member build a strong foundation for long-term recovery.
